Italy and Colonies

It may be because of the Prosecco, but the result is that several of our members are interested in Italy.

Here we're showing two displays, one comprises early material from the Italian Islands of the Aegean Sea, which were occupied for military reasons by Italy from 1912, during the Italo-Turkish war. First we have some stamps inscribed Rodi (Rhodes), which despite the name, were general issues and used throughout the islands. Then we have some overprinted Italian stamps inscribed more correctly for the "Isole dell Egeo"

Our other display is much more modern, and shows the Italian issues of 1985 - 1986. The exhibit illustrates that one of the problems in collecting this area on preprinted leaves, is that naturally, the descriptions are all in Italian.
